Advanced Clinical and Surgical Management of Placenta Accreta Spectrum
The Placenta Accreta Spectrum (PAS) Workshop at the MEGO Conference equips obstetricians and gynecologists with advanced skills and practical approaches to effectively manage this complex condition. As PAS disorders are associated with maternal complications, early diagnosis, strategic planning, and skillful surgery are required.
As cesarean section rates rise worldwide, cases of placenta accreta, increta, and percreta are becoming more common. This workshop will address issues of how to identify possible cases in advance, diagnose cases effectively during prenatal care, and treat according to established protocols.
Participants will gain hands-on training in using ultrasound and MRI to evaluate PAS. They will also learn to recognize key diagnostic indicators and assess risk based on the depth of placental invasion. The training also focuses on planning deliveries in centers of advanced care with regard to when to have the delivery, preparing for blood loss, and utilizing available resources.
The Placenta Accreta Spectrum workshop further explores various surgical techniques, such as planned cesarean hysterectomy, options to preserve the uterus, and step-by-step methods to control bleeding. The need for a team effort when dealing with PAS is highlighted, including collaboration with anaesthesiologists, interventional radiologists, urologists, and critical care physicians.
By working through real cases and hands-on scenarios, participants will build confidence in decision-making and in planning surgeries. The session aims to help attendees manage PAS safely, communicate effectively with patients, and establish transparent care processes at their own hospitals.
