Dr. Rita A. Sakr is a highly skilled and experienced Breast Oncoplastic Surgeon and Obstetrician-Gynecologist, currently practicing at Dubai Hills Hospital in Dubai, UAE. With over 20 years of clinical, surgical, academic, and research experience, Dr. Sakr is a renowned expert in breast cancer detection, high-risk patient identification, and breast surgery.
Dr. Sakr earned her medical doctorate from St Joseph University in Lebanon and completed her Residency program in Obstetrics-Gynecology and Breast oncoplastic surgery at Aix-Marseille University in France. She went on to complete her Ph.D. doctorate in molecular biology of breast cancer and her breast fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre in New York and École doctoral de Cancérologie of Institut Gustave Roussy in Paris.
Dr. Sakr has held various positions as a Consultant Breast Oncoplastic Surgeon and ob-gynecologist in several institutions, including Institut Curie / Paris, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre / New York, and Assistance Publique – Hôpitaux de Paris. She has also served as an Associate Professor and co-head of the Breast and Gynecology Care Unit for high-risk patients at Pierre & Marie Curie / Sorbonne University, France.
Dr. Sakr is a member of various clinical societies such as the American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Association for Cancer Research, Lebanese Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Collège National des Gynécologues et Obstétriciens Français, Society Française de Sénologie et Pathologie Mammaire, New York Academy of Sciences, European Society of Surgical Oncology, Emirates Oncology Society, and Europa Donna.
Dr. Sakr has authored over 100 publications and abstracts in peer-reviewed journals and international conferences and has received numerous international recognitions, such as the American Association Cancer Research Award and the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium Award.
Apart from her extensive surgical, clinical, and academic experience, Dr. Sakr is passionate about patient advocacy and actively involved in multiple associations for breast cancer survivorship in Europe, the USA, and the UAE.
Dr. Sakr’s clinical expertise includes breast surgery (cancer & benign lesions), breast cancer oncoplastic surgery (lumpectomy – mastectomy), axillary sentinel lymph node biopsy – axillary clearance, counseling for breast issue (symptomatic and screening patients), early detection of high-risk patients for breast/ovarian cancer, laparoscopy/laparotomy for adnexal mass, ovarian cyst, ectopic pregnancy, hysterectomy, myomectomy, and other gynecologic conditions. She is also highly skilled in hysteroscopy, colposcopy, conization, Pap smear, IUD, pelvic ultrasound, vaginal delivery, and cesarean section.
