Prof. Stefano Salvatore
Profile
Prof. Stefano Salvatore is a distinguished gynecologist specializing in female pelvic dysfunctions, with a particular focus on genital prolapse and urinary incontinence. He is currently the head of the Functional Unit of Urogynecology at the IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital in Milan, which is directed by Professor Massimo Candiani. Prof. Salvatore completed his medical degree with honors at the University of Pavia in 1989, and then went on to specialize in Obstetrics and Gynecology, also with honors, at the same university in 1994.
Prof. Salvatore has gained valuable experience and expertise through various specialist training periods abroad, including at the Obstetrics Clinic and Gynecology of Ljubljana in Slovenia, the Urogynaecology Unit of King’s College Hospital of London in the United Kingdom, and at the Temple University of Texas in the USA. He has also authored over 200 original scientific articles published in international journals and book chapters and has an H index of 38.
Aside from his clinical and research activities, Dr. Salvatore is also a renowned speaker and moderator, regularly participating in national and international conferences in the field. He is an Adjunct Professor at the Vita e Salute San Raffaele University of Milan and Visiting Professor at Imperial College St Mary’s Hospital in the UK.
Prof. Salvatore is actively involved in various professional organizations and committees. He is a member of the Scientific Committee of the International Urogynecological Association and serves as Vice-President of the European Society of Urogynecology. He is also the Chairman of the Terminological Standardization Committee for Female Pelvic Dysfunctions of the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics. In addition, he is a member of the International Consultation on Incontinence Research Society, the Scientific Committee of the Italian Continence Foundation, the Board of the Pelvic Floor Working Group, and the Italian Society of Pelvic Floor and Functional Urology.
Dr. Salvatore is a well-respected consultant, having served on the Hygiene and Health Commission of the Senate of the Italian Republic. He has also organized two world congresses in the field of pelvic dysfunctions, serving as scientific president for ICS Florence 2003 and as president of the congress for IUGA Como 2009.
In recent years, Prof. Salvatore has also dedicated himself to gynecological cosmetic surgery, with a focus on laser treatment for vulvovaginal atrophy, perineal scar treatment following an episiotomy, and labioplasty for the reduction of the labia minora. Through his years of training, research, and clinical practice, Prof. Stefano Salvatore has made significant contributions to the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology and continues to be a respected leader and expert in his specialty.
